Dudley M. Du Bose
Dudley McIver Du Bose (October 28, 1834 – March 2, 1883) was a lawyer, soldier, and a U.S. Representative from Georgia.
Early life[]
Du Bose was born in Shelby County, Tennessee. He attended the University of Mississippi at Oxford, and graduated from the Lebanon Law School (in Tennessee) in 1856. He was admitted to the bar in 1857 and commenced the practice of law in Memphis, Tennessee. He moved to Augusta, Georgia, in 1860.
Civil War[]
Du Bose served in the Confederate States Army during the Civil War as the colonel of the 15th Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry, and subsequently became a brigadier general in the Western Theater.
Postbellum career[]
Following the war, Du Bose moved to Washington, Georgia. He was elected as a Democrat to the Forty-second Congress (March 4, 1871 – March 3, 1873). Afterwards he resumed the practice of law.
He died in Washington, Georgia, and was interred in Rest Haven Cemetery.
